From the Facebook Event:
It's been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that's exactly what we'd like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools. RIP Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase and Billy Lucas. You are loved.
On behalf of those people, I made this video.
[link]I am a person who has in the past had low self esteem. Whenever I record things for Youtube, i usually end up doing them over and over again, because I never feel like they are good enough. I seldom like my face to be on camera, because I feel like I'm not pretty enough.
I've decided not to let that get to me anymore. Here I am, no makeup, no hairspray, just me and my guitar and all of my beautiful mistakes to show you, the person who's just like me, that we are in fact all beautiful in every single way.
Don't let anyone ever tell you that you are not. The hate in this world has caused six suicides, six deaths too many, but we can show the world that we are stronger than that. Love is greater than hate, and we should join hands and prove this fact.
Spread love, not hate. Share in joy, not in dismay. We are beautiful, no matter what they say, so don't you bring me down today.
